This picture is from a soccer game in Germany pitting Dresden against Cottbus. i am a doughnut explains:
- The two teams are rivals and this is a top match, an important game and a derby to boot. The Cottbus fans are thinking of a way to make a cool banner they can unfurl to make fun at the Dresden fans. So what swear word do they come up with to put the “D” symbol of Dresden into? Its got to be a pretty bad swear word, a horrible insult and its got to have the letter “D” in it. As you can see above the insult the come up with is “JUDEN”, as you all probably know, the German word for Jews.
Subsequently, the Cottbus Fan Scene has released a statement condemning the actions of the fans at the match, to which the blog’s author reacts as follows:
Actions speak louder than words though…. lets see how they “deal” with this problem. At least a first step has been made but if such things take place then a culture exists that is going to take more than a step. They have a marathon ahead and personally I will judge their willingness and disgust by the actual efforts they take to deal with this rather than a press release.
It’s interesting how, after more than a thousand years, and whether the prevailing wind is religious or socialist, when push comes to shove, the Europeans (and, especially, the Germans) always fall back on hating the Jews.
